Governor Bio
Reverend Tina Kelsey - Chair of Governors
I was born in Sussex and spent a lot of my childhood there learning ballet, tap and jazz. This eventually led me to go to college and train as a ballet teacher. For 11 years I ran my own ballet school during which time I got married and had two sons. When my first son was born we started going to church and this led in 2013 to me being ordained. I am currently the Chair of Governors here at Meridian and the vicar of St Peter's Church, Edmonton and am still dancing! As a family we have five cats, some fish and a tarantula called Scruffy. I love walking, watching Star Trek and reading, especially historical books and detective novels such as Brother Cadfael and Sherlock Holmes.
Mrs Lyn Hinton- Governor
Lyn brings a wealth of experience from a lifelong career in healthcare, having trained as a nurse in the late 1970s. She went on to gain a degree in nursing, followed by a master’s degree in clinical evaluation, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based practice, governance and lifelong learning.
Now retired, Lyn remains passionate about supporting children’s development and education. She regularly volunteers at the school as a reader, helping to foster a love of books and literacy among pupils. Her background in healthcare, combined with her involvement in the classroom, offers a valuable perspective on child wellbeing, learning support, and school life.
Mr Barry Berndes- Vice Chair of Governors
I have a background in secondary education having been a Physics teacher for 36 years at The Latymer School. I am now enjoying the role as a governor in the primary setting and also serve as chair of governors at another local primary school. I am active in my local Baptist church where I serve on the Diaconate. I have many interests, I have been a football referee for over 40 years and currently officiate at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy on a regular basis. Since retiring from teaching in 2019 I have kept busy, I work at peak season for a schools ski company, I am a trained Covid and Flu vaccinator, I am a keen theatre goer, and I am President of a local Bowls club, to name a few!
I believe that giving children a first class early education is vital to them becoming rounded and purposeful people who can contribute positively to society, and to be able to provide this with a Christian ethos is even more important.
Bridget Lennon – Governor and interim SENCo
I have spent over 30 years working in primary education, teaching across all age groups in schools throughout London. During that time, I’ve held a variety of roles – including Class Teacher, Inclusion Manager, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, and Acting
Headteacher. Each role has helped me understand what children, families, and school communities need to thrive.
Throughout my career, I’ve led on many important areas such as Safeguarding, Inclusion, English, Maths, Science, Religious Education, and Assessment. My passion has always been to make sure that every child, whatever their background or ability, has the chance to succeed.
I believe every child can make progress with the right support and high-quality teaching, and that a strong foundation rooted in Christian values can give them the confidence and character to lead positive, fulfilling lives. Since retiring in July 2024, I’ve been proud to serve as a Governor at Meridian Angel Primary School. It’s a privilege to support the school in achieving its vision of “a
safe and inclusive community deeply rooted in God’s love, leading to life in all its fullness.”
Lawrence Desouza – Headteacher
I have over a decade of senior leadership experience and four years as Chair of Governors at another Enfield Church of England school, I have dedicated my educational career to working in underserved communities, helping families and children aspire for more and championing socialmobility.
Becoming Headteacher of Meridian Angel Primary School has been an absolute pleasure, as the community here mirrors so much of my own upbringing. The families, the challenges and the daily realities faced are deeply familiar and by God’s blessing I was able to navigate those same pathways. Now, I am committed to ensuring our children, families and staff see that social mobility is truly possible when we walk a path of high aspirations and a hopeful vision for the future.
‘A safe and inclusive community deeply rooted in God's love’ leading to ‘life in all its fullness’
I am a firm believer in the power of belonging – seeing each other, hearing each other and knowing we are part of one community. Together, we share the responsibility and privilege of aspiring for more for our children and in doing so, we make social mobility a lived reality rather than just an ambition.
Beyond school, I am a father of two teenage boys and enjoy spending weekends coaching my son’s football team. Every so often, I even lace up my own boots to play the sport I’ve loved since childhood. My Ghanaian heritage continues to shape my values of resilience, community and faith, all of which I strive to embed into the life of the school.
As the African proverb so beautifully reminds us: “It takes a village to raise a child.” At Meridian
Angel, I believe that we are that village – working together, belonging together, and building
brighter futures for every child.
Sadia Hoque- Staff Governor
I am a dedicated primary school teacher with six years of experience across both KS1 and KS2, bringing a broad understanding of the curriculum and the diverse needs of pupils at different stages of their learning. Teaching has always been my chosen path. From a young age I was drawn to the idea of helping children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence. The opportunity to shape a child’s educational journey and to watch those moments when understanding truly “clicks” continues to inspire me every day.
At Meridian Angel Primary School, I have taken on a range of leadership responsibilities, previously leading RE, PSHE, and Science, and currently serving as the lead for both Maths and Science. These roles have strengthened my ability to support colleagues, drive curriculum development, and create engaging, inclusive learning environments.
I believe teaching is one of the most important professions because it lays the foundation for every other future pathway a child may choose. A great education empowers children to discover their strengths, overcome challenges, and develop the skills they need to flourish in an ever-changing world. Being part of that process and helping to nurture not just academic achievement but resilience, kindness, and a love for learning is what makes this profession so meaningful to me.
LDBS Academies Trust
On 1st September 2018 the school became part of the London Diocesan Board of Schools Academies Trust. The vision of The Trust is for excellence and equity for all children in a Christian context.
Vision Statement
Excellence and Equity for All Children in a Christian Context
Our schools aspire to provide ‘excellence and equity in a Christian context’, where every child is valued as a unique individual treasured by a loving God.
‘I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands.’ Isaiah 49.v16.
Our aim is that every child will have the opportunity to flourish and develop into a rounded adult who can live life to the full.
‘I have come that they may have life and may have it in all its fullness’. John 10.v10.
Our schools are places where all are welcome and where we practise kindness and hospitality on a daily basis. Our vision and our values are clearly displayed and while it is not a requirement that a child and their family have to be practising Christians we do expect all parts of the community, children, staff, parents and carers to support the values that we hold dear.

Why do schools have Governors?
All state maintained primary schools and Free schools, are accountable to their governing bodies, which in turn are accountable to parents and the community. They are a voluntary body established to oversee the strategic direction and policy making of the school. Governing bodies are required to make decisions which are in the best interests of the children as a whole.
What are the governors responsibilities?
They include:
- providing strategic management
- acting as a critical friend to the school
- ensuring accountability
- promoting high standards of education and achievement
- planning the schools’ long term future
- setting the school’s aims and values
- appointing senior members of staff including the Head Teacher
- setting budgetary allocation, control and monitoring
Why do individuals volunteer to be governors?
The school benefits from your contributions and you could benefit from the experience.
- By volunteering as a governor you can help secure a positive outlook for future generations.
- Volunteers can benefit through developing transferable skills. As a governor you can build on your team working skills; network with a variety of different types of people; gain experience in different fields such as project management, finance, marketing, administration and so much more.
- Training is provided by a separate third party for those that will benefit from it.
Who are the governors?
The main governing body consists of volunteers drawn from the following sources (including vacancies). Head Teacher, Vicar, parent governors (2), staff governors (elected) (1) and LAT governors (4)
Current Vacancies
We are always looking to recruit parent governors. Just enquiring does not commit you to the role, so ask all the questions and likewise we will too. If there are no vacancies still please register your interest, so we know who to approach next time.
When and how would I contact the Governors?
The Governing Body welcomes the views of parents on how to improve the school, or to address any areas of concern, so please feel free to contact us if not in person then by email on: office@meridianangel.com
You can also write to us, ensuring any correspondence is marked for the attention of the Chair of Governors in an envelope and left with the School office.
